The Broadway Education Alliance Inc. is proud to announce the establishment of the This Is A Great Country Fund, an initiative to provide financial assistance to military families whose children have been cast to perform with The Camp Broadway Kids Ensemble in the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Through a national talent search, Camp Broadway LLC will cast 125 boys and girls, ages 9-16, of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to represent military families. The Camp Broadway Kids Ensemble will mark their 10th appearance in this event performing an original musical presentation of Irving Berlin’s American anthem “This Is A Great Country”. Barry (Lieutenant Colonel, United States Air Force, retired, President, Eleventh Hour, Inc.); MEejie™ Chaparro-Traverso (Entrepreneur and Business Consultant); Evan Guzman (Chief Veteran Advocate, The MilBRAND Project); Brigadier General Harris Kline (Mobilization Assistant to the Staff Judge Advocate, HQ AFMC, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio); Kaye Lenox (Chief Executive Officer, Las Casas Foundation); and Lyneir Richardson (Executive Director, The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, Rutgers University). “The Broadway Education Alliance is committed to highlighting the importance of the performing arts in the education and development of children, and to provide opportunities for children to participate in more meaningful theater arts experiences” says Executive Director Brian W. Curran. “We are very aware of the sacrifices of extended families in supporting those who protect and serve our nation, and are delighted for the opportunity to enable many of these children of military families to march in the Macy’s Parade, and for them to share the joy of performance on Thanksgiving Day”.

BEA is raising funds through public and private donations to offset participation fees for as many children as possible, so they can attend Camp Broadway’s award-winning theatre arts program. Camp Broadway’s This Is A Great Country combines the best of musical theatre and the sights of New York City, and culminates in a Broadway caliber ensemble performance in the longest running show on Broadway.

Participating children will receive—

  • 30 hours of rehearsals in singing and dancing led by Broadway actor/director Brad Bradley, whose family has been in the military for three generations
  • Wardrobe fitting and event costume from a professional designer
  • Master classes in performance to hone presentation skills and build confidence
  • Healthy meals, snacks and water during rehearsals
  • Official Camp Broadway Kids cast headshot and group photo
  • Official Camp Broadway t-shirts and participation patch
  • Other benefits to be announced
