What is Eclipsed?
Eclipsed is a powerful new play written by Zimbabwean-American playwright and actress Danai Gurira directed by South Africian-born Liesl Tommy. The production features Academy Award®-winner Lupita Nyong’o, with Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah and Saycon Sengbloh. It tells the story of five extraordinary women brought together by upheaval in their homeland of Liberia. This production features an all female cast, director and playwright. Amid the chaos of the Liberian Civil War, the captive wives of a rebel officer band together to form a fragile community – until the balance of their lives is upset by the arrival of a new girl. The Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign is sponsored by the producers of the Broadway production including Stephen Byrd, Alia Jones-Harvey, Paula Marie Black, Willette Klausner , Carole Shorenstein Hayes, Kenny Ozoude, Michael Magers, Dominion Pictures, Emanon Productions, FG Productions, Scott and Molly Forstall, Marvet Britto and La La Anthony who will also serve as the spokesperson of the program. Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign is inspired by the overwhelmingly positive response to the production from the sold-out audiences at The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham).
Who is managing Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign?
The Broadway Education Alliance is a New York based 501(c)(3) charitable corporation established to stimulate the development of innovative theater-arts inspired educational programs that enrich and inspire youth. BEA is serving as the fiscal sponsor for Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign, managing the strategic planning, financial oversight, accounting, donor and community relations, and program management.
How will Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign Grants be administered?
Schools, community centers or charitable organizations whose mission is to serve low income women by providing social, therapeutic or educational support to young women age 16-24, can apply to the Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign for a grant at www.broadwayeducationalliance.org. All submissions will be reviewed in the order received by a panel of professionals involved with the production. Grants will be awarded to qualifying organizations based on the availability of show tickets and educational funds. The decision of the panel is final. A program administrator will contact the group leader to coordinate attendance to Eclipsed at the Golden Theater, 252 West 45th Street in midtown Manhattan.
Can a donor to the Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign sponsor a specific group of young women?
Yes. A donor can provide BEA administrators with the name of the group it wishes to designate the 10,000 Girls grant to at the time of their donation. In addition, if the applicant has a sponsoring donor, the name should be indicated on the grant application.
What is the cost and benefit of the Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign?
The cost of the Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign is $79.00 per young woman. Each sponsored group will receive a souvenir book, a teacher/leader guide, a pre-show discussion on the plays’ themes lead by a knowledgeable spokesperson, or a post-show talk back with the cast at select performances. The grant does not include transportation to or from the theater or food before or after the play.

How will each group be notified about their grant applications?
The Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign program coordinator will contact the leader of each group to discuss the decision of the grant panel, and if accepted, assist in the coordination of tickets to a specific performance at the Golden Theater.
Where and when does the Eclipsed: 10,000 Girls Campaign take place?
The educational components of the program will take place at the Golden Theater, 252 West 45th Street in midtown Manhattan. Designated program performances are as follows:
